Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer - Manipur Centre
Instrument details:
Make: Perkin Elmer
Model: Analyst -200 series AAS
High-efficiency, segmented solid-state detector. Used for estimation of Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu and Al.

Working principle: A much larger number of the gaseous metal atoms will normally remain in the ground state. These ground state atoms are capable of absorbing radiant energy of their own specific resonance wavelength. If light of the resonance wavelength is passed through a flame containing the atoms in question, then part of the light will be absorbed. The energy absorption will be proportional concentration of atom.

Application:
Analysis of soils and water for micronutrient and heavy metal content
User instruction:
Plant : Minimum 15 g powdered sample / 50 g dried sample Soil : Minimum 100 g sample sieved (< 2.0 mm sieve) Water : Minimum 250 ml freshly collected/sample preserved in< 2.0 pH using HNO3 in plastic (preferably polytetrafluoroethylene) container rinsed with 1:1 HNO3.
