The ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region (ICAR RC NEH) was established on 9th January, 1975 under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
This is the first of its kind set up by ICAR, which encompasses all the disciplines of agriculture, horticulture, animal sciences, agricultural engineering, agroforestry, fishery
and social sciences to cater to the research needs of the tribal areas of NEH Region including Sikkim. The headquarter (HQ) of the institute is located in Meghalaya (Barapani), while
its regional centres are located at Basar (Arunachal Pradesh), Imphal (Manipur), Kolasib (Mizoram), Jharnapani (Nagaland), Lembucherra (Tripura) and Gangtok (Sikkim). The institute has
20 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) attached to different centres and HQ for providing on/off campus training to the practicing farmers, school dropouts and farm women in the field of agriculture
and allied sectors.
THRUST AREAS
- • To evolve sustainable integrated farming systems for jhum improvement and restoration of degraded lands
- • To increase the overall productivity of different crops through research in cereals, pulses, oilseeds, horticultural crops including temperate horticulture, agroforestry, fisheries and other economical crops.
- • Development of feed and fodder resources from locally available fodder for livestock.
- • Improvement of citrus plantation to reinvigorate the citrus industry
- • Animal health coverage and improvement of livestock production system including trans-boundary diseases.
MANDATE
- 1. To develop and improve sustainable farming systems for different agro-climatic and socio-economic conditions of NEH region, including organic agriculture.
- 2. To improve crops, horticulture, livestock and fishery and to impart training for development of local competence for efficient management of resources.
- 3. To collaborate with state Departments for testing and promotion of improved farming technologies.

The Central Lab belongs to the ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Umroi Road, Umiam-793103, Meghalaya. It is supported by the Government of India. It provides analytical services in NPK, micronutrients and soil pH testing in soil samples. Detailed scope of the product is mentioned separately
