Awareness Programme on Importance of Indigenous Livestock and Poultry Organised

        An Awareness Programme on Conservation of Indigenous Livestock and Poultry along with Input Distribution was organised in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry, Govt of Meghalaya on 19th December, 2025. The programme was funded from ICAR-Network Project on Animal Genetics Resources and organised at Langpohdon village located in Umling Block of Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya. A total of 30 tribal farmers attended the day long programme. The participants were made aware about the importance of indigenous livestock and poultry and their conservation. During the programme, Dr Esra Syiem, Veterinary Officer, Govt of Meghalaya spoke about African Swine Fever in pigs and its biosecurity measures. After the programme, veterinary feed supplements and vitamins were distributed among the beneficiaries. During the valedictory programme, the villagers thanked the Director of the institute and Department of Animal Husbandry, Govt of Meghalaya for conducting such beneficial programmes for the tribal farmers of the state. Dr Sourabh Deori, Senior Scientist & PI was the Organising Secretary for the programme. Dr Dipan Rudra Paul, Ph. D student and Mr I. Qureshi, YP-I actively involved in organisation of the programme.
