A one-day awareness programme under the Intensive campaign on balanced use of fertilizers initiated by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi
was successfully organised at Khurkhul village by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) initiative on 12th May 2026. The programme was
conducted with the objective of enhancing farmers’ awareness on balanced fertilizer application, soil health improvement and sustainable agricultural practices.
During the programme, the team comprising Dr. Soibam Basanta Singh, Head, ICAR NEH Manipur Centre, Dr. E. Lamalakshmi Devi, Dr. N. Anando Singh, Dr. Chongtham Tania,
Dr. Aruna Beemrote, Dr. L Chanu Langlentombi, along with the team from ICAR-KVK Imphal West lead by Dr. L. Kanta Singh, Senior Scientist and Head interacted with local farmers and highlighted the importance of balanced
fertilizer use and soil health management through Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices for sustainable agriculture. The program was also graced by Shri Heikham Premkumar, Chairperson, Khurkhul Gram Panchayat and
he appreciated ICAR team for extending awareness on such important issues.
The programme focused on sensitizing farmers to the adverse effects of excessive and unbalanced application of chemical fertilizers and emphasized the need for
adoption of environment friendly sustainable farming practices, including organic farming and natural farming, for maintaining long-term and sustainable soil fertility, crop productivity, and ecological balance.
A total of 22 farmers participated in the awareness programme. During the event, agricultural inputs such as pulse seeds (mungbean and urdbean), seedlings, urea, and micronutrients were distributed among the participating farmers.
