Umiam, Meghalaya, 10 July 2026:
ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri-Bhoi District, Umiam, Meghalaya,
organized a Capacity Building-cum-Input Distribution Programme on Climate-Smart Scientific Pig Farming under the NICRA
Technology Demonstration Component (NICRA-TDC) in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA),
Ri-Bhoi District. A total of 30 progressive pig farmers from NICRA-adopted villages participated in the programme. The training
focused on climate-resilient and scientific pig farming practices, including selection of improved breeds, scientific housing, balanced
feeding and nutritional management, disease prevention and biosecurity, vaccination and deworming schedules, waste management, and strategies
for enhancing productivity and profitability under changing climatic conditions. During the programme, experts emphasized the importance of adopting
climate-smart livestock production technologies to improve farm resilience, ensure efficient resource utilization, and strengthen farmers' livelihoods.
Farmers actively interacted with the resource persons and clarified their field-level challenges related to pig rearing. As part of the programme, essential
pig farming inputs were distributed to the participating farmers to facilitate the adoption of improved scientific practices under the NICRA-TDC initiative. The
programme concluded with an interactive session, during which farmers expressed their commitment to implementing the recommended technologies for sustainable and
climate-resilient pig production. The programme was jointly organized by ICAR–KVK Ri-Bhoi under NICRA-TDC in collaboration with ATMA, Ri-Bhoi District, reaffirming
their commitment to promoting climate-smart livestock farming and improving the socio-economic status of farming communities in Meghalaya.
