Collaborative Initiative for Sustainable Goat Development in Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya

        A Collaborative Animal Health Camp for Goats was successfully conducted at Syadheh Village, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya under the ICAR–AICRP on Goat Improvement (AHG Field Unit) through the joint efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri-Bhoi, Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU), Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Government of Meghalaya, and Ri-Bhoi Area Welfare Association (RAWA), NGO. The camp benefited more than 65 goat farmers, during which over 80 goats were vaccinated against Goat Pox to prevent disease outbreaks and enhance herd health. Veterinary professionals also conducted basic health check-ups and provided technical advisories on scientific goat rearing practices, including disease prevention, balanced nutrition, housing management, and biosecurity measures. Following the health interventions, goat feed and essential husbandry implements were distributed among participating farmers to promote improved livestock management and productivity. The programme witnessed enthusiastic farmer participation and demonstrated strong inter-institutional collaboration aimed at strengthening livestock-based livelihoods and promoting sustainable animal health management in the Ri-Bhoi district.
