A three-day “Skill Upgradation Training Programme on Pig Farming” was
successfully organized by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ri-Bhoi from 20th to 22nd May, 2026 under the NICRA–TDC programme.
A total of 15 farmers and rural youths from Umling block of Ri-Bhoi district actively participated in the training programme.
The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing scientific knowledge and entrepreneurial skills in pig farming for
improving livelihood and climate resilience among the farming community. During the three-day programme, participants were trained
on various aspects of scientific pig farming including improved breeding practices, housing management, feeding and nutrition, disease
prevention and vaccination, biosecurity measures, waste management and marketing opportunities in piggery farming. Practical demonstrations
and interactive sessions were also conducted to provide hands-on experience to the participants. The training programme was attended by scientists
and Subject Matter Specialists of KVK Ri-Bhoi who emphasized the importance of adopting improved and climate-resilient pig farming technologies for
increasing productivity and income generation. The participants appreciated the practical-oriented training and expressed their interest in adopting
scientific pig farming practices in their farms.
