Frontline Demonstration on Improved Paddy Variety RC Maniphou-15 Conducted at Nikhekhu Village

        ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur, under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, successfully conducted Frontline Demonstration (FLD) on the promotion of improved paddy variety RC Maniphou-15 at Nikhekhu village on June 2, 2026. The programme was attended by 24 farmers.
        Dr. Phool Kumari (Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK Dimapur) briefed the participants on the various activities and services provided by KVK Dimapur for the benefit of the farming community. She also created awareness about the ongoing “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” campaign, stressing the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, soil health management, and efficient use of farm resources to ensure long-term agricultural sustainability.
        During the programme, Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding, KVK Dimapur), delivered a lecture on the scientific techniques of lowland paddy cultivation. She highlighted the importance of adopting improved cultivation practices, including proper nursery management, timely transplanting, balanced nutrient management, weed control, and integrated pest management for achieving higher productivity and profitability in paddy cultivation. She also emphasized the advantages of the improved rice variety RC Maniphou-15 for enhancing farmers’ income.
        Ms. E. Lireni Kikon, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Plant Protection, KVK Dimapur), delivered an informative session on the ongoing balanced use of fertilizers campaign. She explained the significance of soil testing. Farmers were encouraged to adopt integrated nutrient management practices for sustainable crop production.
        The programme provided a valuable platform for farmers to interact and gain practical knowledge on improved rice cultivation technologies. Farmers actively participated in the discussions and expressed keen interest in adopting the recommended practices and 400 kgs of paddy variety RC Maniphou-15 was distributed to the farmers. The event concluded with an interactive session where farmers’ queries related to paddy cultivation were addressed by the KVK personnel.
