ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur organized a day-long
demonstration programme on scientific paddy cultivation and natural farming practices at the Natural Farming Model
Demonstration Unit in Khriezephe Village.
The programme commenced with an introductory session by
Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK Dimapur, who welcomed the participants and highlighted
the various extension, training, and technology dissemination activities undertaken by the KVK for the benefit
of the farming community. She emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural
practices to improve productivity while conserving natural resources.
As part of the Natural Farming demonstration,
Ms. E. Lireni Kikon, ACTO, Plant Protection, KVK Dimapur trained the participants in the preparation
of Jeevamrit, a microbial culture prepared from locally available natural ingredients that enhances soil
microbial activity and improves soil health. A practical session on seedling treatment of paddy using
Jeevamrit solution at a dilution of 1:10 was also conducted before transplanting, highlighting its role in
promoting healthy root development and improving crop vigour.
The technical demonstration on scientific method of line
transplanting in paddy was conducted by Dr. Bendangla Imsong, CTO, Plant Breeding, KVK Dimapur. She explained
its advantages in ensuring proper plant spacing, better crop management, improved aeration, and enhanced yield.
Farmers were encouraged to adopt line transplanting as an effective practice for increasing productivity and facilitating
intercultural operations. The interactive programme provided farmers with hands-on experience in sustainable paddy cultivation techniques.
