An awareness cum training programme on “Conservation of Local Germplasm for Sustainable Agriculture” on the occasion of
International day for Biological Diversity (Theme: Acting locally for global impact) under Model Genome Club was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre,
Kolasib under Model Genome Club Project on 22nd May, 2026. A total of 30 selected farmers from Thingdawl and Kolasib and 47 class 12 Science students have attended the programme. Mr. H. Dolianbuaia,
Deputy Commissioner, Kolasib District act as a Chief Guest. Topics such as Conservation and preservation of germplasm to enrich biodiversity, Mushroom and horticultural crop diversity of Mizoram, Fish
diversity of Mizoram, Conservation and evaluation of Mizoram crops: Its importance and significance, Biodiversity Conservation of livestock etc were presented by different Scientist (Dr. Vikas Pali (Sr. Scientist, Plant Breeding),
Dr. Lalhruaipuii (Sr. Scientist, Vety. Micro.), Mr. PL Lalrinsanga (Scientist, Aquaculture), Dr. Vanlalruati (Sr. Scientist, Horti.), Dr. Lungmuana (Sr. Scientist, Soil Sc.), Dr. AL Jat (Sr. Scientist, Agronomy). There was a fruitful
interaction between the scientist, students and farmers on conservation of local crops and its importance. Humane Slaughter Technology was also demonstrated through online and hands-on.
