Namsai, 01/06/2026: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Namsai organized a programme in
accordance with the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ in the office premises. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare launched a month
long (June 1 to 30) “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” campaign as a common roadmap focusing on preparing farmers for the upcoming Kharif season,
increasing cultivation of pulses and oilseeds, soil health management through balanced use of fertilizers and natural farming. The campaign
is being spearheaded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
During the program, participating farmers took part in discussing with the
KVK officials about the crop planning for the upcoming Kharif season. Accordingly, the officials then discussed about the
appropriate time, quantity and method of application of fertilizers and organic manures as well as alternative sources of fertilizers
such as green manuring, biofertilizers etc. The farmers also visited the units of green manuring crops Dhaincha and Azolla present in the
office. Crop rotation with pulses was explained to the farmers for its contribution to soil health as well as income generation. Natural farming
components for seed treatment and disease-pest management were discussed with farmers.
Farmers from three villages namely Lathao, Momong and Nanam Khamiang attended the programme and were
provided with climate resilient variety (Ranjit Sub 1) paddy seed. This marks first of many such upcoming programmes.
