Lives Streaming of PM-KISAN Samman 23rd Installment Release Programme at ICAR RC NEH Umiam

        ICAR RC NEH , Umiam, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri Bhoi, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt of Meghalaya has organized livestreaming programme of the release of the 23rd installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi Scheme on 20.06.2026. The event witnessed the participation of 172 farmers including, state officials, and the staff ICAR. Chief Guest, Shri Timothy D. Shira, Hon'ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, acknowledged the invaluable contribution of farmers in ensuring the nation's food security. He encouraged farmers to market their perishable produce directly to processing units instead of depending solely on outside traders and urged them to work closely with both state and central agencies for the overall development of agriculture in Meghalaya.
        Shri R. Nainamalai, Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, emphasized that agriculture will play a pivotal role in India's journey towards becoming a developed nation. He observed that Meghalaya's farmers have a significant role in the state's development and stressed the responsibility of government agencies to create awareness about various farmer-centric schemes at the grassroots level. Dr. G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, informed that approximately 9.4 lakh farmers are expected to benefit under the PM-KISAN Scheme. He emphasized the need to sensitize farmers about various Central Government programmes designed for their welfare. Referring to the low enrollment under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in the North Eastern Region, he urged state departments to intensify awareness campaigns and promote convergence of schemes such as "Per Drop, More Crop" and PM-KUSUM for maximizing benefits to farmers. Shri S. Rani, Director, Department of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, stated that PM-KISAN is a dedicated scheme for farmers and reaffirmed the department's commitment to supporting them. He highlighted that improving farmers' livelihoods is essential for achieving the nation's vision of becoming a developed country by 2047. Dr. A. K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI Zone VII, Umiam, was also present in the programme.
