The “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” programme was successfully conducted on 17 May 2026 at Chanam Sandrok Village, Imphal East, Manipur,
with active participation of farmers, scientists, local leaders, and members of the farming community. A total of 79 farmers participated in the programme, including 17 women farmers.
The programme was graced by Hon’ble MLA, Keirao Assembly Constituency, Lourembam Rameshor Singh, as the Chief Guest, while
Dr. Soibam Basanta Singh, Head of the Regional Centre, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, attended the function as the Guest of Honour.
In his address, the Chief Guest highlighted the rich origin and heritage of the indigenous Manipuri cattle popularly known as
“Meitei San”. He emphasized the importance of cattle rearing in strengthening the rural economy of the state and improving the livelihood of farmers. He also encouraged the farming
community to preserve and promote indigenous livestock resources for sustainable agricultural development.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Soibam Basanta Singh, stressed the need for scientific conservation and community-based management of indigenous
cattle. He underlined the importance of preserving local cattle breeds through scientific interventions and collective participation of villagers and farmers.
Dr. N. Anando Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, highlighted the
importance of pulse cultivation in enhancing soil fertility, improving soil health, and increasing income opportunities for small and marginal farmers. He also encouraged farmers to
adopt pulse-based cropping systems for sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Ch. Roben Singh,SMS, ICAR-KVK, Imphal West delivered an informative session on balanced use of fertilizers and scientific rice cultivation
practices for enhancing productivity while maintaining soil health. Other experts and resource persons also shared valuable insights on natural farming practices, sustainable agriculture,
and eco-friendly farming methods aimed at reducing dependency on chemical inputs and promoting environmental conservation.
During the programme, high yielding rice varieties namely RC Maniphou-13 and RC Maniphou-16, pulse seeds including black gram and green gram,
and battery-operated power sprayers were distributed among the participating farmers to promote scientific and sustainable agricultural practices. The programme concluded with an interactive
session between farmers and experts, where various agricultural and livestock-related issues were discussed for the benefit of the farming community.
