ICAR Secretary Reviews Agricultural Research Activities and adopted technologies of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre and its 5 KVKs (Imphal West, Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong and Ukhrul)

        Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, IAS, Additional Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Secretary, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), visited the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal, on 27 September 2026 to review the research, technology development and extension activities of the Centre and its 5 KVKs (Imphal West, Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong and Ukhrul)
        A display of agricultural products, technologies and other research outputs of the Centre was also arranged. The Head of Regional Centre (HORC) explained the displayed products, technologies and research outputs to Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, highlighting their practical applications and relevance to farming communities.
        The review focused on strengthening agricultural research and technologies development to address the diverse needs and challenges faced by farmers in Manipur and across the North Eastern Region. Dr. S. Basanta Singh, Head of the Regional Centre, presented the major achievements, ongoing activities and key research and extension programmes of the Centre.
         Shri Tripathi interacted with scientists and technical staff and discussed the progress of ongoing programmes, challenges in agricultural research and areas requiring further attention. The discussions also covered farmer training, technology demonstrations and other extension activities carried out by the Centre.
        He expressed his appreciation for the research activities, technologies developed, and other significant work undertaken by the Centre. He also suggested that the revenue-generation target of the Centre should be enhanced in the coming years, with greater emphasis on the promotion and commercialization of its technologies and research outputs.
        The visit provided an opportunity to review the Centre’s ongoing work and identify future areas of research and technology development aimed at improving agricultural production, supporting farmers’ livelihoods and promoting sustainable agriculture in Manipur and the North Eastern Region.
