Training-cum-Demonstration Programme under Khet Bachao Abhiyan Organized at ICAR Basar

        Basar, 03 June 2026: As part of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan, a Training-cum-Demonstration Programme was organized on 3rd June 2026 at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar, in collaboration with ICAR-KVK, West Siang. The programme aimed to promote environmentally sustainable agricultural practices, reduce pollution, and enhance climate resilience through improved natural resource management. The programme was attended by 10 farmers belonging to the Tani Ao Mithun Farmers Welfare Society, West Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh.
        The farmer trainees were provided exposure to cattle rearing and scientific management of Mithun for enhanced collection and utilization of farmyard manure (FYM), thereby reducing dependence on inorganic fertilizers in the Research Farm, Gori, ICAR RC NEH, Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar. The session was conducted by Dr. Joken Bam, Senior Scientist (Vety. Parasitology), and Dr. Bali Yomgam, Technical Officer.
        A hands-on training on the preparation and application of Jeevamrit, an important input in natural farming, was imparted by Dr. Ampee Tasung, Scientist (Soil Science) and Dr. S.K. Pandey, Sr. Scientist (Agronomy). The scientists highlighted the role of Jeevamrit in improving soil fertility, microbial activity, and sustainable crop production. Dr. Ampee Tasung, Scientist (Soil Science), delivered a practical demonstration on the application of agricultural lime in field and fruit crops at recommended doses for the management of soil acidity and improvement of soil health.
        The concept and benefits of crop rotation with legumes and green manure crops, such as moong bean and soybean, for improving soil health and nutrient cycling were demonstrated by Dr. Thejangulie Angami, Senior Scientist (Fruit Science) and Dr. Gerik Bagra, Technical Officer. Farmers were also encouraged to collect and conserve local climate-resilient germplasm to safeguard agricultural biodiversity and enhance adaptation to changing climatic conditions by Dr. P.K. Zeliang, Principal Scientist.
        From ICAR-KVK, West Siang, Dr. Rita Nongthombam, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Breeding), and Mr. Wangnem Rekhung, Programme Assistant (Soil Science) delivered lectures on organic seed production techniques and integrated nutrient management practices.
        The programme concluded with a fruitful interaction between the scientists and participants, wherein the importance of sustainable agriculture, natural resource conservation, and climate-resilient farming practices was reiterated.
