On May 13, 2026 KVK Anjaw organized two days awareness campaign and training programe on the balanced use of fertilizers and adoption
of science-based nutrient at Chingwinty under Walong-Hawai circle. A total of 16 farmers and farm women participated in the programme.
The gathering was welcomed by Mr Kh. Naveen, SMS (Agronomy). He explained how improper fertilizer use not only increases the
cost of cultivation but also degrades soil fertility over time. He also spoke on various methods to improve the soil nutrient status for sustainable agriculture. He shared his
experience about the cultivation practices and soil related various problems. He advocated farmers for adoption of green manure crop like Dhaincha (Sesbania Aculeata) which increase
soil fertility and reduce fertilizer use.
Er. Ugarsain, SMS (Soil & Water Conservation Engineering), also explained that scientific soil testing helps
in identifying nutrient deficiencies and enables farmers to apply the right type and quantity of fertilizers based on soil requirement. Emphasis was laid on balanced
nutrient management for sustainable agriculture and reducing unnecessary fertilizer use.
An interactive session where farmers discussed soil-related problems and received technical guidance for improving soil fertility and
crop management practices. The training concluded with vote of thank by ArSLM field supervisor Merina Lowang.
