Visit of Dr. Koushik Banerjee, Director, NRC Grape Pune to ICAR Tripura Centre

Lembucherra, Jun 4, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening agricultural research collaboration, Dr. Koushik Banerjee, Director, and Dr. Nishant Deshmukh, Senior Scientist, from the National Research Centre for Grapes (NRC Grape), Pune, visited the ICAR Tripura Centre today. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for partnership and knowledge exchange in horticulture and grape cultivation suited to the northeastern agro-climatic conditions.
        During the visit, Dr. Banerjee and Dr. Deshmukh held detailed discussions with the scientists of the centre, headed by Dr. B. U. Choudhury. Focus was placed on sharing recent advancements in viticulture, pest management, and post-harvest technology developed by NRC Grape. Dr. Deshmukh also highlighted the potential for introducing grape varieties and related technologies that could be adapted to Tripura’s terrain and climate.

   



        The delegation visited various research facilities at the centre, including the experimental farms and laboratories. Dr. B. U. Choudhury briefed about the ongoing projects and the contribution of the centre related to the agriculture development of the state. Both organisations expressed interest in collaborative projects on grape cultivation and allied research that could lead to enhanced productivity and farmer income in Tripura. The ICAR Tripura Centre welcomed the initiative and assured full support for future joint research endeavours. This visit marks a promising beginning towards fostering innovation and entrepreneurial opportunities in horticultural crops, thereby contributing to the socio-economic upliftment of farmers in Tripura.
